On Sunday, the 16th of May 2010 We, a group of 32 from our office in Cochin, Kerala went out for a planned tour to the mesmerising Athirappilly water falls near Chalakudy, Thrissur District. We started from Kochi by 7.50, around 20 minutes behind the schedule in a tourist bus and a car. By 9.30 we reached Athirappilly. There were parking tickets and separate entry fee for reaching the falls, and the whole area was declared plastic free zone.The main hindrence in the journey to Athirappilly was the burning sun who was smiling over our head and the main attraction was the mesmerising
and glittering water that falls from an approximate height of 80 feet. The water creates a halo at the bottom and the view was magical. The road to Athirappally is in good condition, and is about 60 - 70 Kms from Kochi and Thrissur, and the Cochin International airport is around 50 K.M.s away. Many a number of monkeys can be spotted in the entire preserved area of Athirapalli. The famous Vazhachal water falls is also near to Athirapally, but we did not get enough time to visit the place.By 10.30 we started from Athirapally and reached Pillapara, and an adventure zone called Challenger One. The mood of the group was in its zenith with the simple games like blasting balloons, throw ball(under knee), build a structure, tug of war, and some of the adventure games like swing in pulley, spider web, walk over the rope, travel through swinging rings and so on. The food in the adventure resort was homely and every one enjoyed it to the core.
The return was by around 4.30 PM, and on the way back we stopped at the Butterfly Park in Thumboormuzhy, and had a dip in one of the small stream found there. We were back to the office premises by 7.30 PM, with sweet memories and rejuvenated mind.Attractions: Water falls, handicrafts, butterfly park.
